Bio
Matthew
Olian has been working with glass
since 1999. He discovered the art of glassblowing through a PBS
documentary on internationally renowned artist, Dale
Chilhuly. Matthew was mesmerized and captivated by the film. Shortly
after watching the program, Matt enrolled in what would be the first of
many lampworking classes. After one day of working with the medium,
Matt was fanatical about glassblowing. Seeing that the possibilities
with the medium were truly limitless, Matt delved headfirst into the
world of glass and began to explore his artistic visions.
Over 10 years later, what started out as a
hobby has evolved into a full-time line of work for Matthew. The artist
currently makes both ornamental and functional glass art out of his
Philadelphia based studio. Today, Matt continues to further his glass
knowledge and skill base by attending annual conferences and taking
routine classes. He has studied flameworking under numerous
internationally renowned artists including Bandhu Scott Dunham, Milon
Townsend, Vittorio Constantini, Cesare Toffolo, and many others who
have all helped him to refine his skills and express his own unique
styles.
